Federico García Lorca is one of the fundamental voices of 20th century Spanish poetry, whose work, marked by an intense musicality, a deep symbolism and a constant tension between tradition and avant-garde, has reached a universal projection. His poetic production ranges from the neo-popularism of Romancero gitano to the metaphysical density of Poeta en Nueva York, configuring a unique literary universe in contemporary poetry.
The present volume corresponds to Poemas escogidos, first edition published in 1939 by the publishing house El Ciervo Herido, in Havana. It is an edition of special bibliographical interest, both for its early publication date, very close to the author's death, and for its character of international diffusion of Lorca's work in the Latin American sphere.
This edition is also a rare and hard-to-find piece, which increases its value for collectors and bibliophiles. Its appearance in Cuba is part of the early process of international canonization of García Lorca, whose figure acquired immediate symbolic relevance after his death, becoming a reference of Spanish-language poetry beyond the peninsular borders.
The selection of poems gathered in the volume offers a representative vision of the author's stylistic diversity, covering different stages of his poetic creation. As a whole, the work allows us to appreciate both his popular roots and his evolution towards more complex and visionary expressive forms, consolidating his place as one of the great poets of the 20th century.
