Gregorio Prieto was one of the most singular figures of 20th century Spanish art. Linked to the Generation of '27 and closely related to numerous intellectuals of his time, he developed a work characterized by poetic sensitivity, refined drawing and a deep admiration for the landscape and cultural heritage of Spain.
Published in 1956 by Ínsula publishing house, Granada. Quince dibujos de Gregorio Prieto is one of the most careful bibliographic editions dedicated to the city of Granada. The volume brings together fifteen original drawings by Prieto accompanied by an exceptional selection of literary and historical texts by such outstanding authors as Luis Rosales, Ángel Ganivet, Washington Irving, Antonio Machado, Federico García Lorca, Francisco Villaespesa, André Gide, Benjamin Disraeli, Juan Ramón Jiménez and Emilio García Gómez, together with historical testimonies and romances of Christian-Moorish tradition.
The work offers a plural and evocative vision of Granada, a city that for centuries has aroused the admiration of travelers, writers and artists. Gregorio Prieto's drawings delicately capture the atmosphere of its streets, monuments and landscapes, while the selected texts enrich the publication with literary, historical and poetic perspectives ranging from the Nasrid period to modern times.
More than an illustrated book, Granada. Quince dibujos de Gregorio Prieto is an artistic and cultural celebration of one of Spain's most emblematic cities.
