DESCRIPTION
Candlestick or side table. Spain, late nineteenth century-early twentieth century.
In mahogany wood and marquetry.
Measurements: 61,5 x 40 x 40 cm.
It is a small format side table, with balanced lines and discreet decoration, typical of the neoclassical taste. The piece combines a clear geometric form with a restrained ornamentation, designed more for elegance than for ostentation.
This type of furniture was mainly used in living rooms, cabinets and bedrooms, where it served as a support table for books, personal objects, light work or small writing utensils. The integrated drawer was used to store correspondence, playing cards or personal belongings, reinforcing its practicality in the domestic environment.
Table lamps of this type were especially common between the end of the 18th century and throughout the 19th century, at a time when domestic interiors were organized around more intimate and functional spaces.
