DESCRIPTION
JOAN MIRÓ (Barcelona, 1893 - Palma de Mallorca, 1983).
"Derriere le Miroir, Nº 203", 1973.
Lithograph on paper.
Signed in plate.
Measurements: 38 x 56 cm; 50 x 67 cm (frame).
This work was conceived by Miró to be part of one of the most influential art publications of the 20th century. Founded in 1946 by Aimé Maeght and published in Paris, the magazine accompanied the exhibitions of the Galerie Maeght, integrating original graphic work with poetic and critical texts. Its careful edition turned it into a privileged space of encounter between art and literature. Key figures of modern art such as Miró, Chagall, Calder, Braque or Giacometti collaborated throughout its pages, consolidating it today as a valuable collector's item that testifies to the evolution of contemporary European art.
Joan Miró was trained in Barcelona and moved to Paris in 1920, where contact with surrealism was decisive in consolidating his own language based on poetry and the irrational, soon achieving international recognition with a presence at the MoMA and a major retrospective in 1941; his work is now held in major international collections.
