DESCRIPTION
PEDRO SÁNCHEZ PICAZO (Fuente Álamo, 1863- Murcia, 1952).

Self-taught, Pedro Sánchez was able to train at the Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid thanks to a pension received in 1887. From then on he was awarded prizes for his work. When he finished his studies in Madrid he decided to take part in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts, obtaining an honourable mention. At the same exhibition Pablo Ruiz Picasso also received an honourable mention. In 1900 he received the Gold Medal at the exhibition held in Murcia for his work Cesto de Flores (Basket of Flowers). In 1905 he was appointed professor of drawing and composition at the Círculo de Bellas Artes. He received the Gold Medal of the Círculo de Bellas Artes for a painting of flowers. Throughout the 1920s he gained considerable recognition for the numerous solo exhibitions he held.
