In this work the author captures a female portrait that radiates modernity. The young woman is captured in the foreground, with the figure in front of a flat surface, looking directly at the viewer. Her vaporous white dress blends with her elegant gloves that cover her hands. The pearly face, delicate and feminine, is enhanced by the flushed cheeks and the powerful red lips match the flower that decorates her hairstyle. The brushstroke is vibrant and expressive, and becomes more precise and descriptive on the face to focus the viewer's gaze on it.
Although we know little about Helene le Roy D'Etiolles, we know that she was born in London but soon emigrated to Paris with her parents. She was a student of the painter and engraver Jean Joseph Benjamin-Constant and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1888 to 1933, she also showed her work at Rouen Femmes Peintres et Sculpteurs in 1906. Today his works are kept in the Musée d'Orsay and the Musée Lambinet, as well as in other private collections.
