Period copy of "Médée furieuse" (1838) by Eugène Delacroix, an emblematic canvas of French Romanticism. The scene represents the moment of maximum dramatic tension prior to the infanticide, when Medea, after Jason's betrayal, takes refuge in a cave and embraces her children in an ambiguous gesture that oscillates between protection and imminent violence.

The composition reproduces the pyramidal scheme of the original: the figure of Medea dominates the space, enveloped in a dark and cavernous atmosphere that accentuates the psychological isolation of the character. The body, modeled with warm and contrasting lighting, emerges from the somber background with a marked corporeality. The red cloths intensify the emotional charge and act as a chromatic counterpoint to the predominant ochers and earths.

This version evidences the profound influence of Delacroix in his time, when his mythological compositions became models for study and replication within the academic and romantic sphere.
