DESCRIPTION
Catalan School, late 19th–early 20th century.
Following the style of JOAQUIM MIR I TRINXET (Barcelona, 1873–Barcelona, 1940).
“Boat on the Beach.”
Oil on panel.
Apocryphal signature.
The work is part of the tradition of Catalan landscape painting revitalized by Modernism, offering a free interpretation of the Mediterranean coastline. The broad, direct brushstrokes, the simplification of forms, and the use of blues, greens, and ochres reveal the influence of the artistic language developed by Joaquim Mir, particularly in the autonomous treatment of color.
The beached boat occupies the center of a composition framed by the trees in the foreground, while the coastline is rendered with quick, luminous brushstrokes. The spontaneous treatment of the paint brings dynamism to this small-format, decorative scene.
