The work is part of the tradition of 19th-century Spanish Romantic landscape painting, a genre in which nature ceased to serve merely as a backdrop and instead became a vehicle for an emotional and idealized vision of the landscape. The path winding through the vegetation, the small figures, and the farmhouse perched on high ground create a composition of gradual depth, designed to draw the viewer’s gaze toward the distant mountains.

The painter combines a shadowy foreground, dominated by the dense mass of trees, with a well-lit central area that focuses the narrative scene.
