Suso Basterrechea, after initially becoming known as a sculptor, in recent years has found in painting a means of expression that allows him greater expressive immediacy. This is evidenced in this work, in which, as usual in his latest series, he combines text and image, visual typography and a type of drawing that draws from graphics, poster art and comics. He introduces comments on art history and politics, playing with free appropriations, quotations and reinterpretations.
Suso Basterrechea graduated in fine arts at the University of Seville.
He has had numerous solo exhibitions: Centro Torrente Ballester (Ferrol), Pardo Bazán gallery (A Coruña), Espacio para el Arte Caja Madrid (Pontevedra) or Cuatrodiecisiete gallery (Madrid), Sargadelos gallery (Ferrol), Ventana Abierta gallery (Seville). He has participated in the Caja Madrid's Generation 2000 contest or in the Union Fenosa Biennial, being awarded in both cases with the acquisition of the work, entering therefore in both collections and included in the exhibitions derived from these contests.
