Manuel Solà trained at the Escuela de La Lonja in Barcelona, and immediately upon completing his studies, he was awarded the 10th Young Artists’ Painting Prize by the Sala Parés in Barcelona (1968). He made his solo debut the following year with two exhibitions of paintings and drawings at the Mataró Municipal Museum and the Ateneo Barcelonés. During this period, he was awarded the silver medal in the “El Correo Catalán” painting competition (1971). He continued to exhibit his work in Catalonia, and in 1976 he participated for the first time in a group exhibition abroad, in the French city of Toulouse. That same year, he enrolled at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona to further his training. Starting in the 1990s, he took part in group exhibitions outside Spain and at biennials such as the one in Alexandria, where he won the jury prize (1999). Gradually, he moved away from painting and turned to sculpture, a field in which he created various monumental works in different parts of Spain. His work is included in the Col·lecció Testimoni de La Caixa, among other important art collections.
