MANUEL PAILÓS BLANCO (Corme, A Coruña, 1918- Montevideo, 2004).
Untitled.
Oil on cardboard.
Measurements: 25,5 x 25,5 cm; 44 x 44 cm (frame).
Trained at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, Manuel Pailós was a well-known painter, sculptor, ceramist and even art theorist who stood out as one of the main figures of Joaquín Torres García's movement, since he remained in his workshop -and even directed it- during his last years in Uruguay. Torres García created the Asociación de Arte Constructivo, which functioned as a center for art studies, whose painting is based on line, geometry and flat colors. In this way, Pailós' work differs by following the constructivist movement, which sought to convey a message through signs that admitted different readings, free of subjectivity. Manuel Pailós has received many awards in Latin America throughout his career as an artist, participating in numerous group and solo exhibitions, thus crossing the Spanish borders and consecrating his career as an artist.
This time it is a work to which the artist gives a refined chromatism, based on the use of earthy colors delimited by thick contours. The piece presents a figurative design. Influenced by other avant-garde movements such as cubism, where the different planes have been changed in position and perspective, resulting in a piece where the different elements are observed and intuited.
