DESCRIPTION

Catalan school; 20th century.
"Ships in the harbor".
Oil on canvas.
It has flaws in the pictorial surface.
Signed "B.Moreno" in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 33 x 49 cm; 49 x 65 cm (frame).
Marine belonging to the Spanish pictorial tradition of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, a time marked by the rise of maritime trade and technological transformation of navigation. Signed by B. Moreno, the work reflects the interest of many painters of the time in depicting ports, ships and naval scenes linked to industrial progress and the dynamism of international maritime traffic.
Executed in oil on canvas, the composition shows two steamships sailing in the open sea, possibly belonging to the renowned British shipping company MacAndrews & Co, identifiable by the characteristic color-banded smokestacks that distinguished their vessels. Founded in the 19th century, this company played a key role in the trade routes between Spain and the United Kingdom, especially in the transport of goods across the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.
