A promoter of the New Figuration in the fifties, José Vento would later evolve towards a lyrical abstraction that would end up leading, already in the nineties, in a language of pure color, stripped of any trace susceptible of being interpreted as a sign. Vento studied at the San Carlos School of Fine Arts in Valencia, and expanded his knowledge in El Paular, Madrid and Italy, thanks to various scholarships. He was a founder of Grupo Z and a member of Grupo Hondo, and in 1949 he held his first solo exhibition, which was followed by other personal and group exhibitions. He also participated in Biennials in Havana, Sao Paulo, Venice and Alexandria. In 1967 he was awarded the National Painting Prize. Vento is currently represented in the Museums of Contemporary Art in Madrid and Seville, the Museum of Modern Art in Alexandria, the Museum of Abstract Art in Cuenca and the Museum of Fine Arts in Valencia, among other collections.
