Landscape was the central focus of Imeldo Corral’s work; he developed a personal interpretation of the environment based less on topographical description than on capturing its atmosphere. In this work, the house is integrated into a sloping landscape through impasto brushwork and a palette dominated by bluish grays, earthy greens, and ochres.

The small format lends itself to a direct and concise style of painting, akin to a sketch made from life. Corral eliminates anecdotal elements to focus on the relationship between architecture, painterly texture, and atmosphere—traits consistent with his evolution toward an increasingly expressive style of landscape painting that pays close attention to light and atmospheric effects.

Imeldo Corral González was one of the leading Galician landscape painters of the 20th century. After moving with his family to Madrid in 1903, he trained independently and frequented the Prado Museum as a copyist. He participated in the regional exhibitions of 1917 and 1926 and was a member of the Royal Galician Academy of Fine Arts. His work is held in the Museum of Fine Arts in A Coruña, the Afundación Collection, and other Spanish and American institutions.
