"Gangster Paradise" is a work resolved with a digital montage technique coated with a layer of high gloss resin that creates a dynamic visual effect. Plastic glamour is the guiding principle of Chiew's compositions. All of Chiew's creative expressions stem from his enormous eagerness to experiment. This self-taught creator from Singapore always pushes the boundaries in his versatile mixed media productions. In an original and extravagant way, James combines (photographic) images and objects with different materials such as wood, metal, acrylics, epoxy and everything imaginable. He mixes contemporary graphic techniques with classical methods and analog materials. Says the artist: "The digital era offers unprecedented possibilities. I experiment as much as I can because I always try to find new perspectives. My challenge is to make the impossible a reality. His artworks always have a lot of depth: literally and figuratively you will discover several layers in his works. His most recognized artwork so far: Beatrix 3-D. In 2013, he was invited to the exhibition 'Beeld van Beatrix' at Paleis Het Loo and Paleis Soestdijk in honor of Beatrix's 75th birthday.
