As an artist linked to contemporary pop-surrealism, I develop a work that subverts the codes of art and popular culture. Based on vibrant graphics and Pop Art imagery, I appropriate iconic references to decontextualize them and bring them back to the present as uncomfortable reflections of our reality. I do not seek to pay homage to the past, but to question it, provoke it and rewrite its meanings.
Collage acts as a conceptual and formal starting point, understood as a gesture of rupture. From there arises a spontaneous and irreverent visual language, built through unexpected combinations of materials and technical solutions. My work intervenes in the recognizable, dismantles the symbolic and generates friction between the sacred and the banal, between the iconic and the absurd, as a critical mirror of our time.
Reinaldo Ortega Sardiñas is a visual artist graduated from ISA in 2004 and ENA in 1996, resident in Alicante (Spain). He has had solo exhibitions such as Destellos intransferibles (University of Murcia, 2019), Common Dreams Black & White (University of Alicante, 2018), Con derecho al cielo (Alicante and Havana, 2015-2017) and El destello de lo no permeable (XI Biennial of Havana, 2011).
He has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including the X Havana Biennial, the National Digital Art Salon, the Self-Portrait Salon and shows in spaces such as the Fototeca de Cuba, Galería Habana, Fábrica de Arte Cubano and institutional halls in Spain and Cuba. His work is situated between cultural criticism, visual irony and contemporary re-reading of the popular imaginary.
