Fascinated by Caravaggio’s Baroque paintings, digital artist Slasky creates classical works of art using digital art techniques. With his neo-urban classical style, he blends tradition and modernism, transporting the protagonists of the original works of art into contemporary social and artistic settings. By placing the characters from the original works in contemporary spaces, he has created new images that convey messages entirely different from the original concept and idea with which they were created by their original artists, strikingly capturing the viewer’s attention while simultaneously requiring a certain level of engagement on the viewer’s part to be fully understood.
The works evoke an immediate sense of familiarity, yet are presented with an injection—sometimes an explosion—of color and life that imbues them with richness and modernity. In his works, details take center stage, as he uses color contrast techniques, textured backgrounds, and screen prints to create the same theme in various forms, setting it apart from its traditional backgrounds.
