Traditional Chinese costume from Beijing, made of antique silk, circa 1900. It is embroidered with peonies, flower that for the Manchus symbolizes wealth and progress and other floral motifs. The flowers that appear in the secondary areas could be identified with the plum blossom, symbol of perseverance and purity. Birds of paradise also appear, which are related to the concept of happiness. This type of jacket was worn over another dress, as an outer garment.
