The Delft ceramics, typical of the manufactures of this city of the Netherlands, is characterized by the use of blue and white, generally painted by hand. Delft production was refined at the end of the 19th century, when white porcelain replaced the red clay used until then, and specialized in tiles, vases, cups and plates, mainly decorated with typically Dutch landscapes, especially seascapes and the traditional plains with mills and canals of the lowlands. On this occasion the vases take the shape of a trumpet, narrower in the center, and are embellished with typically Dutch architecture contained in pavilions. Flowers and other plant motifs complete the compositions.
