BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

KARL TUTTER (Germany, 1883-1969).
"Eagles", first third of the 20th century.
With Hutschenreuther Selb LHS Bavaria stamp on the base.
Presents lack in one of the wings.
Measurements: 92 x 45 x 35 cm.

In this sculptural group we go to the combat between two eagles with the great wings spread and with the heads almost touching, expressing their territorial challenge. The aggressive attitudes are endowed with great expressiveness. The author captures the emotional intensity of the moment materialized in the sharp talons that create a dramatic composition imbued with strength and frizzled movement of the bodies. The rock on which the confrontation takes place adds a naturalistic context and elevates the drama of the action. The piece is notable for its realism and the meticulous rendering of textures, such as the plumage and the roughness of the porcelain.

Karl Tutter was one of the most sought-after porcelain sculptors of his time. His pieces enjoyed great success both in Germany and abroad, and in fact the Hutschenreuther factory owed much of its fame to the designs Tutter created for it.
