DESCRIPTION
LE VERRE FRANÇAIS, ca. 1930
Art Deco vase.
Acid etched cameo glass.
Signed on the base.
Measurements: 49 x 15 x 15 cm.
Slender vase made around 1930 by Le Verre Français, artistic line created by Charles Schneider, one of the most innovative figures of French glass between the wars. Executed in acid-etched cameo technique, it features a dynamic motif of butterflies in intense orange-red descending on a turquoise gradient background, creating a vibrant chromatic contrast characteristic of the workshop's mature production.
The composition combines the graphic stylization of Art Deco with a refined naturalistic heritage of Art Nouveau. The play of overlapping layers and tonal depth are evidence of the technical mastery of the Schneider workshops, renowned for their chromatic boldness and precision in engraving.
Trained in Paris as an engraver, Charles Schneider founded his own manufactory in 1909, reopened in 1917 as Verreries Schneider. In 1921 he created the "Le Verre Français" line, introducing innovations such as glass marquetry and developing a production based on acid etching, with occasional wheel work on multiple layers. His works were sold in the main Parisian galleries and department stores, consolidating his international prestige.
