Brother of the illustrator Daniel Perea, he began his training at an early age at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. In 1860, he participated in the Fine Arts Exhibition with a painting of historical theme, Philip II imploring the help of His Divine Majesty, for which he received an honorable mention, and then went to Paris with the money he had won with a prize from the National Lottery, where he stayed for a year to complete his studies. In Paris he enrolled at the Imperial Academy and specialized in watercolor and drawing. He achieved greater prestige with his watercolors, especially between 1872 and 1882, which were highly valued in a market that was still unfamiliar with this technique. His work as an illustrator of literary works includes books such as Historia de El Escorial de Rotondo and Galería Universal de Biografías.
