Painter mainly watercolorist, specialized in costumbrista themes and landscapes and also master of bullfighting scenes, Alfredo Sanchís began, however, as a cartoonist in the Valencian publishing house, participating later in the independent adventure of Creo with his sister María del Pilar. In 1968 he became part of the Art Studium team, dedicated to the creation of illustrated children's books and series for the foreign market. However, Sanchís later abandoned comic strips and illustration to devote himself to painting, specializing in the watercolor technique. As a watercolorist, Sanchís is considered by many as the best bullfighting artist in this discipline, and in fact the books "Sanchís Cortés. Lirismo y bravura" (Agualarga, 2003) and "Sanchís Cortés. Dibujos taurinos de prensa" (Ed. Diputación de Valencia, 2009), which include the drawings he published in the evening paper "Jornada" between 1953 and 1956 and his most outstanding works, such as his "Tauromaquia Negra" (Black Bullfighting). He is currently represented in various collections.
