This costumbrista scene, executed with the characteristic graphic fluency of Manuel Barrón y Carrillo, Sevillian master of the XIX century and key figure in the consolidation of the Andalusian landscape school, condenses to the perfection the romantic spirit that defined a good part of his production. It articulates a balance between direct observation and the idealized recreation of popular life, a hallmark very typical of Barrón, who knew how to turn festivities, dances and outdoor gatherings into authentic visual emblems of Andalusian identity.
The work fully responds to the artistic climate of the mid-19th century, when costumbrismo was in great demand among national and European collectors. Its agile stroke and the use of a warm ink evoke both the liveliness of the scene and the romantic taste for picturesque prints. In this type of compositions, Barrón combined his knowledge of the landscape with a special talent for capturing the dynamism of the figures and popular sociability, offering images that functioned as both a cultural document and a desirable aesthetic object.
