DESCRIPTION
JOAN MIRÓ (Barcelona, 1893 - Palma de Mallorca, 1983).
Untitled, 60's.
Mixed media (crayons and India ink) on double-sided paper.
Signed and dedicated to Ena and Miquel Gaspar (Sala Gaspar).
Both sides certified by ADOM.
Measurements: 30 x 44 cm.
This double-sided work on paper by Joan Miró condenses in a direct and spontaneous way the essential principles of his artistic language. The free, almost automatic gesture coexists with spots of primary color and graphic signs that refer to his symbolic universe: constellations, organic forms and calligraphic traces that float in the space of the paper.
The combination of techniques and the apparent formal simplicity hide a profound research on rhythm, balance and the poetics of the sign. Miró transforms the support into a field of experimentation where drawing, color and writing intertwine, giving rise to an intimate and vibrant work, closer to the creative process than to the final result.
On the other hand, the piece takes on a special value because it is addressed to Ena and Miquel Gaspar, owners of the legendary Sala Gaspar in Barcelona, which was key in the diffusion of avant-garde art in Spain and maintained a very close relationship with the artist.
Joan Miró was trained in Barcelona between the Escuela de la Lonja and the Galí Academy, and made his early debut with his first exhibition in 1918 at the Dalmau Galleries. In 1920 he moved to Paris, where he came into contact with the artistic avant-garde and began to develop his own language, influenced by poetry, memory and the irrational. His international recognition was consolidated at the end of the 1920s and was definitively established with a major retrospective at the MoMA in New York in 1941. From the 1950s he expanded his work to techniques such as engraving, lithography and ceramics. Settled in Palma de Mallorca from 1956 until his death in 1983, Miró became a central figure in 20th century art, with his work present in major international museums and with the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona at the heart of his legacy.
