DESCRIPTION
JEAN BENNER (Mülhausen, 1836 - Paris, 1906).
"Flowers."
Gouache on paper.
Signed.
Measurements: 47 x 37 cm; 73 x 61,5 cm (frame).
The work of Jean Benner combines influences of the academicism with a certain lyricism and sensibility towards the light and the environment, which approaches him sometimes to approaches close to the naturalism and even to the softest impressionism. He was an appreciated artist in his time, with presence in the Paris Salon, and his compositions usually transmit an intimate, elegant and delicate atmosphere.
He trained with his brother Emmanuel Benner, also a painter, and both developed close styles, although Jean stood out for a more refined painting oriented to the bourgeois taste of the time.
