Ryland’s work shares significant aesthetic similarities with the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and Victorian Neoclassical painters such as Albert Moore and Lawrence Alma-Tadema. He was a prominent British painter, illustrator, decorator, and designer, widely recognized as one of the leading figures of the Neoclassical revival and the Aesthetic Movement of the late Victorian era. His work is notable for his exquisite watercolors of women dressed in classical or medieval robes, often set on Greek- or Roman-inspired marble terraces.
