BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Following models by PUCCI DE ROSSI (Verona, Italy, 1947- 2013).
Chest of drawers, c. 1970.
American oak wood.
Measurements: 124 x 64 x 32 cm.
Chest of three drawers made of American oak wood. This style in which functional sculpture is mixed with furniture in an ironic way, reinterpreting fragmented furniture was common in Pucci De Rossi's work.
Pucci De Rossi was a leading figure in postmodern design, transcending the utilitarian function of objects. Sculptor, designer and an artist difficult to classify within the European art scene of the 1980s and 1990s. Trained by the American sculptor H.B. Walker, he began his career in 1971 with influences from Art Nouveau, the minimalism of Arte Povera and the neo-baroque style of the Memphis group.
In his early works, he designed furniture and jewelry with unusual and destabilizing forms, playing with irony and the unexpected. In 1977 he moved to Paris, where he was discovered by Pierre Staudenmeyer. From 1985 he exhibited regularly at the Neotù Gallery and later at the Downtown and Kreo galleries.
