MARIE-CHRISTINE DORNER (France, 1960) for Scarabat
Table "Teena", 1989.
Beech wood.
Aluminum legs.
Measurements: 75 x 170 x 90 cm.
The coffee table "Teena", designed by Marie-Christine Dorner in 1989 for the Tarragona firm Scarabat, is characterized by a daring and original aesthetic by combining the cut and sinuous profiles of the wood with the minimalism of the tabular legs in aluminum. This solution of the sinuous profile evokes the sinuous fall of a tablecloth.
Designer, interior architect and graduate of the École Camondo in Paris, Marie-Christine Dornen spent a year in Tokyo designing her first furniture collection for Idée, before opening her first studio in Paris. The great diversity of her projects is surprising: among the best known, La Villa in St Germain des Prés, the Comédie Française restaurant, the presidential tribune (tribune présidentielle du 14 juillet) at the top of the Champs Elysées, street furniture for the city of Nîmes, designs for le Mobilier National. A Londoner for over 10 years, he designs and equips ambassadorial residences for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, undertakes special projects for private clients and designs for manufacturers as diverse as Ligne Roset, Montis, Bernardaud and Baccarat. His "Une Forme, One Shape" collection, exhibited in 2004 in Paris, Tokyo and Kyoto, is just one example of his taste for perfection. The best craftsmen from France and Japan created her jewelry, objects and furniture in wood, gold, porcelain, bamboo, ceramics and composite materials. Marie-Christine Dorner has lectured in both London and France, and in 1995 she was awarded the Grand Prix du Design de la ville de Paris.
