The chandelier we now present reflects the mastery of René Roubícek and his status as a central figure of the Czech Studio Glass movement. The leitmotif of his work is the use of glass as sculpture. As can be seen, his designs are often voluminous and dramatic pieces that dominate the space. This style aligns with the Czech avant-garde, which explored the glass to create abstract expressions and bold forms.
René Roubícek was a Czech glass artist and designer, considered an icon of art glass and one of the founders of the European Studio Glass movement. He is credited with introducing the world to glass art as an independent discipline more than half a century ago, co-leading the Czech avant-garde that explored the material to create sculptural expressions decades before the similar movement in the United States. In addition to his work as a painter and freelance artist, Roubí?ek was a pedagogue at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the late 1960s, and collaborated with leading Czech glassworks such as Crystalex, Moser, Lasvit and Preciosa.
