The dining table designed around 2010 by Joaquín Torres for A-cero clearly synthesizes the design philosophy of the studio: an architecture understood as a sculptural gesture transferred to the domestic object. Executed entirely in glass, the piece explores the structural and expressive possibilities of this material until it becomes support, surface and form in a single continuous system.
Born in Barcelona in 1970 and trained at the Lycée Français and the School of Architecture of the University of La Coruña, Torres founded the A-cero studio in 1996 with other architects, including his current partner Rafael Llamazares. From its beginnings, the firm established an identity based on the contemporary reinterpretation of modern architecture, with a marked influence of art and, in particular, sculpture. The progressive internationalization of the studio, with developments in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America, reinforced its global projection, especially after the commission of an ambitious urban complex in Dubai that included proposals such as the Wave Tower or interventions in The Heart of Europe, in The World Islands.
Twice a finalist in the FAD Awards, the work of Torres and Llamazares was the subject of an extensive exhibition at the Valencian Institute of Modern Art in 2012 under the title "A-cero. Living in architecture", an exhibition that subsequently traveled to São Paulo and Madrid.
