DESCRIPTION
EVA RENÉE NELE BODE (Berlin, 1932).
Floor lamp, 1960s.
Lacquered iron and opaline.
Measurements: 146 x 45 x 45 cm.
Space Age lamp, name given to the period in which the space race began in 1957 with the launch of Sputnik. This fever to conquer space also reached design, and during the sixties and seventies a model of decoration was developed based on an idyllic vision of the future, and everything to do with spaceships, new technologies and innovative materials.
Renée Nele is a German sculptor, designer and goldsmith known for her work in metal, her modernist jewelry design and her monumental sculptures of a social and political nature. Daughter of Arnold Bode, founder of Documenta in Kassel, she studied art and design in Germany, England and France, developing a body of work influenced by Bauhaus and post-war contemporary art. In addition to her public sculptures and memorials, she designed furniture, lamps and jewelry that today are highly prized by collectors, standing out for their combination of formal innovation, technical mastery and commitment to historical memory.
