DESCRIPTION
A Pair of Brutalist chairs, stained solid wood & mounted with nailed green artificial leather, probably from the northern Spain, designer unknown.
Originally designed as a traditional birthing chair.
Chairs with signs of use, there are missing 2 crossbars under one of the chairs.
Measurements: 78 x 45 x 38. Seat height: 40 cm.
With a powerful Brutalist aesthetic and a distinct artisanal character, this pair of chairs—likely made in northern Spain during the 20th century—reinterprets a traditional form associated with old birthing chairs. Crafted from stained solid wood, they retain the robust and expressive appearance characteristic of folk furniture, with intentionally irregularly carved surfaces that highlight the material’s natural beauty. The high backs, topped with a distinctive trilobed puncture, and the green faux leather upholstery secured with metal tacks create an interesting hallmark of rusticity and decorative refinement.
