A dining table with an elegant, sculptural presence, designed around a large rectangular top covered with a composition of embossed glazed ceramic tiles. The ceramic surface, organized through a refined interplay of textures, volumes, and chromatic nuances, transcends its utilitarian function to become the true focal point of the piece. The integration of ceramics into furniture reflects one of the most representative trends in French design from the second half of the 20th century, in which art and functionality merge into a language of great visual richness.
The table follows the models developed by Roger Capron, particularly those produced in Vallauris during the 1960s and 1970s, characterized by tabletops clad in ceramic panels with relief decoration and a strong emphasis on materiality. Although not a work attributable to the designer, the piece faithfully reflects the aesthetic principles that defined his work: the prominence of ceramics, the modular composition of the tiles, and the balance between contemporary design and traditional craftsmanship.
Roger Capron (1922–2006) was one of the key figures in the renewal of 20th-century French ceramics. Trained at the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris between 1939 and 1943, he settled in Vallauris in 1946, where he founded the Atelier Callis, playing a decisive role in the resurgence of the town’s ceramic tradition after World War II. In 1952, he acquired an old factory, which he transformed into a major production center, from which he developed an extensive collection of utilitarian objects, decorative panels, and ceramic-clad furniture.
