DESCRIPTION
JORDI VILANOVA I BOSCH (Barcelona, 1925–1998).
“Anella” Mirror, 1964.
Beech wood, leather, iron, and mirror.
In very good original condition.
Measurements: 40 x 40 x 4 cm.
The “Anella” mirror epitomizes Jordi Vilanova’s interest in combining functionality, structural simplicity, and natural materials. The wooden frame, with its strict and refined geometry, contrasts with the flexible nature of the leather strap, topped by a large iron ring that serves both as a suspension system and as a defining element of the design. The choice of materials, presented without artifice, reflects the design language developed by Vilanova during the 1960s—close to the restraint of Nordic design but reinterpreted through a Mediterranean artisanal sensibility.
Trained as a cabinetmaker and interior designer, and working independently since 1952, Vilanova played an active role in the renewal of Catalan design during the 1960s and 1970s and was involved in initiatives such as ADI-FAD and the La Cantonada collective. In 1964, he won a Silver Delta Award for his children’s stool, and various pieces from his body of work are part of the collection at the Museu del Disseny in Barcelona. His professional archive is preserved at the Disseny Hub Barcelona.
