XL ceiling lamp designed by Pia Guidetti Crippa for Lumi, produced in Italy during the 1960s. It stands out for its large white opal glass shade, with rounded, enveloping shapes, combined with an upper metal frame. Its nearly spherical form and clean lines give it a distinct Space Age aesthetic, halfway between functional design and light sculpture. A large-scale piece with a strong presence, representative of mid-century Italian design and the formal experimentation that characterized Lumi’s lighting during the 1960s.
Pia Guidetti Crippa is one of the most distinctive figures in Italian lighting design. Trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan, where she specialized in set design, she developed at an early stage a particular sensitivity toward light as an element capable of shaping spaces, atmospheres, and emotions. Her career is marked by a long and fruitful collaboration with Lumi, a firm for which she designed numerous lighting fixtures and with which she helped define a recognizable aesthetic within contemporary Italian design.
