Pair of Plona chairs, an iconic design by Giancarlo Piretti for Castelli, a standout example of modern Italian design from the late 1960s. This chair marked the definitive consolidation of the Italian firm Anonima Castelli as a world leader in avant-garde furniture. It was the natural and ambitious evolution of its predecessor, the iconic Plia chair.
Crafted from clear methacrylate with a chrome-plated steel frame, they combine visual lightness, technical innovation, and great comfort. Highly prized in the vintage and mid-century design market, these original pieces are ideal for collectors and contemporary interior design projects.
Giancarlo Piretti studied at the Istituto Statale d’Arte in his native Bologna and later began collaborating with Anonima Castelli, where he served as lead designer and head of development until 1972. Shortly before that, in 1969, he had gained fame and recognition for his “Plia” folding chair, featuring a triple-hinge mechanism. His work is currently featured in design collections such as that of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
