Oscar Torlasco’s close collaboration with Lumi Milano resulted in an extensive production of lighting fixtures during the 1950s and 1960s, the central period of his career as a designer. In this pair, the composition combines the elegance of polished brass with a marked stylization of forms, characteristic of postwar Italian design. The restraint of the structure and the delicacy of these ornamental details place the design at that unique intersection of functionality and decorative sophistication characteristic of Italian lighting from the 1950s.

Oscar Torlasco worked primarily in the field of lighting, collaborating with firms such as Lumi and Stilkronen. In 1959, he received the Compasso d’Oro for the “Genova 4053” streetlight, produced by Fabbrica Apparecchi Illuminazione Greco. The ADI Design Museum highlights the constructive and functional effectiveness achieved in this design through a remarkable continuity of profile and volume—a recognition that places Torlasco among the leading figures in postwar Italian lighting design.
