With a proven track record, Maison Jansen has decorated the homes of such prominent figures as the Kennedys, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Coco Chanel, and the March family. Founded in 1880 by the Dutch designer Jean-Henri Jansen (1854–1928), its aesthetic was rooted in French furniture combined with design influences from various parts of the world. Its most sought-after pieces reflected the influence of antique designs from the Louis XIV, Louis XVI, Directory, and Empire periods, as well as objects that Jansen discovered during his travels to Japan and Turkey.
