With a distinctly rationalist aesthetic, the table embodies the refined design language that characterized Horst Brüning’s work during the 1960s. Its design is structured around a slender chrome-plated steel frame with continuous lines and gently rounded corners, upon which rests a large glass top that enhances the visual lightness of the piece. The combination of metal and glass, along with the absence of ornamental elements, places the piece squarely within the tradition of postwar German modern design, based on structural clarity, functionality, and formal elegance. Brüning collaborated with Kill International, a German firm closely associated with some of the most iconic designs in modern furniture from the 1960s and 1970s. This variant of the HB 110 is a striking example of his work, particularly notable for its balance of transparency, geometric precision, and quality of craftsmanship.

He studied architecture and interior design at the Hamburg School of Graphic Arts until 1956. He also lived in Copenhagen and Stockholm, where he studied industrial design. In 1963, he opened an architecture and design firm in Stuttgart. During this period, Brüning came into contact with Kill International and the architectural duo Fabricius & Kastholm, leading to a fruitful exchange of ideas that ultimately resulted in international recognition and success.
