The table embodies the pursuit of functionality and simplicity that characterized much of Jordi Vilanova’s domestic furniture during the 1960s. Its square shape transforms via an extension mechanism that doubles the length of the tabletop, while maintaining a visually clean structure. The wide, rounded corner supports and the contrast between the white surfaces and the exposed wood edges give the piece a particularly striking graphic character.

This attribution is consistent with the design language developed by Vilanova during those years, when he combined the tradition of woodworking with industrial materials such as Formica and created numerous solutions for the home.

Jordi Vilanova was an interior designer, cabinetmaker, and designer, trained at the Escola del Treball and La Llotja, and later at the Busquets workshop and Lluís Gili’s studio. In 1960, he co-founded the La Cantonada group, through which he championed a synthesis of artisanal tradition, functionalism, and contemporary design. He was a member of ADI-FAD and developed numerous interior design and furniture projects for homes and public spaces. The Disseny Hub Barcelona houses both his works and an extensive collection of documents related to his professional career.
