Processional cross with a wooden core and an assembly made from gilded bronze and iron plates. The piece shows the body of the dead Christ, with his head bent towards his chest, his strength exhausted. As for the technical workmanship of the piece, it is worth mentioning the ornamental work of the cross, which ends in poly-lobed blades, which are profusely ornamented.
This type of piece was used for important liturgical events, such as processions, and was often changed when there were economic means to do so and in line with new fashions. Precious metals and materials such as gold, silver, gilded silver, enamel, precious stones, etc. were preferred, but if the parish or ecclesiastical authority could not afford them, they were made in other more humble but richer-looking materials, such as gilded copper. In this second case, too, the fashions and techniques of silverware were followed, and striking similarities can be found in works made of different materials.
