BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Italian school of the XVIII century.
"Cupid with two cherubs in play".
Carrara marble.
It presents old restorations made with respectful criterion.
Measurements: 84 x 62 x 38 cm.
Sculptural group carved entirely in Carrara marble, representing the winged Cupid accompanied by two cherubs in a playful scene of intimate complicity. The god of love appears without his bow and quiver, which rest on the ground, suggesting a moment of pause or distraction from his mythological functions.
The composition stands out for its dynamism, balance and narrative sense, evoking the style of Hellenistic sculpture through the expressiveness of the gestures, the theatricality of the postures and the lively interaction between the characters. On a technical level, the work reveals a deep knowledge of children's anatomical modeling, with a smooth treatment of surfaces and a careful transition of volumes, typical of the Italian sculptural tradition of the eighteenth century.
The finish shows great attention to detail, especially in the curls of the hair, the plumage of the wings and the folds of the cloth that partially covers the figures. Their casual and almost anecdotal character contrasts with the formal idealization of classicism, in a balance that denotes modernity within the late-baroque and pre-neoclassical stylistic framework.
