A piece that embodies the creative freedom of Art Nouveau: this pewter vase captivates with its organic silhouette. It is distinguished by its flowing lines and motifs inspired by nature, becoming a decorative object that flows with elegance and sophistication. It presents a complete bas-relief decoration of aquatic motifs. Its sides are ornamented with figures of a young bather and a child, integrated into the vegetation.
Alexandre Vibert was a French sculptor in the Art Nouveau style, trained under the tutelage of Alexandre-Victor Lequien, Emmanuel Frémiet and Eugène Robert. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français between 1883 and 1907, where he received an honorable mention in 1893. Already in 1885, he stood out with the imposing bronze group Love Laughs at Wisdom. However, his greatest recognition came in the 1890s for his art objects in bronze and pewter, produced by the famed caster Siot-Decauville, including the jugs La Pêche (1893) and La Chasse (1894). His works are identified by the signature "A. Vibert".
Siot-Decauville was an influential French artistic foundry, active in Paris from the late 19th to the early 20th century. Founded by Edmond-Gustave Siot, the house specialized in bronzes and was particularly renowned for its mastery of colored patinas. The foundry also operated under the firm Siot et Perzinka (1888-1891) during its partnership with Léon Perzinka, and maintained prestigious showrooms, first on the Boulevard des Italiens and then on the Boulevard des Capucines.
