French Art Nouveau silver plated pewter vase, characterized by its bulbous shape with a long neck and side handles. The piece is decorated entirely in relief with a delicate and profuse motif of sculpted chrysanthemums. It is a clear representative of the Art Nouveau aesthetic.
Blanche Poccard de Saintilau was a French sculptor active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries (especially between 1889 and 1900). She is recognized for her Art Nouveau designs, which materialized in vases with organic forms and floral motifs of great precision. Her works are known for featuring a bronzed patina and often include intricate decorations of lady's slipper orchids and thistles. Poccard exhibited in important competitions such as the 1902 and 1903 Salon, and his pieces are usually signed "B. L. Poccard.
