Pair of elegant Art Nouveau vases in pewter with green patina, designed in amphora form and enhanced with delicate side handles evoking natural branches. They feature exquisite relief decoration with scenes of children fishing in a pond, framed by reed leaves.

Elsie Ward was a prominent American sculptor born in Missouri, specializing in bronze works, especially portraits, busts and reliefs. After graduating in 1889, she trained with renowned artists such as Preston Powers and Ida M. Stair, actively participating in Denver art institutions. Later he moved to New York, where he studied at the Art Students League with masters such as Augustus St. Gaudens and Daniel Chester French. Around 1898 he traveled to Paris, where he created Boy and Frog, a work that won a medal at the Universal Exposition in St. Louis. He also participated in Society of American Artists shows before returning to Denver in 1900.
