This Art Nouveau silver plated pewter vase was produced around 1900 by the prestigious Susse Frères foundry. The piece, designed by Frédéric Debon, represents a complex naturalistic scene starring a bird taking flight among the vegetation of a secluded spot.
Frédéric Debon was a French sculptor noted for his Japanese-style work, which was frequently published in bronze by the prestigious Susse Frères house. Debon regularly exhibited his pieces at the Salons of the Society of French Artists in Paris.
Susse Frères (Susse Fondeur), founded in 1758, is recognized as the oldest French art foundry still in operation. The company established itself as a foundry and art publishing house in the early 19th century. In 1840, they created their first bronze fabrication workshop (dedicated to assembly, chiseling and patina), securing their status as a full member of the Réunion des Fabricants de Bronze that same year.
