Art Nouveau period vase in metal with brown patina, decorated in relief with an allegory of dawn in the form of an ephebe wrapped in veils holding a torch. It rests on a circular pedestal of Languedoc red marble.

Louis Auguste Moreau, born in Dijon in 1855, trained as a sculptor with his father and with masters such as Aimé Millet, Augustin Drumont and Jean Thomas. He belonged to the renowned Moreau dynasty, a family of French sculptors that included his father Auguste and his uncles Mathurin and Hyppolyte-François, as well as his brother Hyppolyte. His style, realistic and elegant, reflected this family tradition. He also studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was active in France at the end of the 19th century, frequently exhibiting his works. His bronze sculptures, representative of Art Nouveau -like Curieuse-, achieved great prestige and served as inspiration for other artists.
