This vase by Alexandre Vibert is a testimony to the mastery with which Art Nouveau transformed functional objects into collectible sculptures.
Alexandre Vibert was a French Art Nouveau sculptor, trained under the tutelage of Alexandre-Victor Lequien, Emmanuel Frémiet and Eugène Robert. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français between 1883 and 1907, where he received an honorable mention in 1893. Already in 1885, he stood out with the imposing bronze group Love Laughs at Wisdom. However, his greatest recognition came in the 1890s for his art objects in bronze and pewter, produced by the famed caster Siot-Decauville, including the jugs La Pêche (1893) and La Chasse (1894). His works are identified by the signature "A. Vibert".
The Parisian foundry Emile Colin & Cie was active between 1875 and 1903. It was also a goldsmith and was present at the Exposition Universelle of 1889 in Paris.
